Where to Find the Master Password
IMPORTANT: The master password is not stored digitally for security reasons. It can be found:
- [e.g., "Written on a card in the fireproof safe in the office closet"]
- [e.g., "Sealed envelope with attorney [Name] at [Firm]"]
- [e.g., "[Person's name] also knows it"]
How to Log In
- Go to [URL — e.g., vault.bitwarden.com] or download the app
- Enter the account email listed above
- Enter the master password from the physical location described above
- You may need a two-factor code — see the "Two-Factor Authentication Devices" page
What's Inside
Once you're in, you can search for any account by name. Each entry has the username, password, and usually the website URL. Important categories to look for:
- Banking & Financial — bank logins, investment accounts, credit cards
- Insurance — home, auto, life, health
- Utilities — electric, gas, water, internet
- Email — email account passwords
- Government — IRS, Social Security, DMV
- Subscriptions — streaming, software, memberships
